A medium without news. Appendix does not deal with what has just happened. But with what has always been there. Here we publish articles about objects, habits, and ideas that rarely get column inches, precisely because they seem obvious. Ballpoint pens. Handwriting. Pace. The analog in a digital age.
Without breaking news. Without clickbait.
Estimated number of plastic pens thrown away worldwide each year… A Pen Company. One pen, that’s the point. One pen is all you need. Far too many resources are wasted on cheap disposable pens that break, dry out and end up in the trash. We believe in one really good pen, made from recyclable materials, built to last, designed to write beautifully and yes, it actually looks good.
When you write with pen and paper, you activate more brain regions —motor, sensory, and those that control memory and learning—than when you just type on a keyboard. This means that the physical act of forming letters helps your brain process and retain information better because you’re more deeply engaged in what you’re writing. Handwritten notes create stronger connections in your brain and provide a better chance of later remembering and recalling what you wrote than if you had typed it.
Your last pen
Students who used physical paper and pen completed information tasks about 25% faster — while their brains worked more efficiently to understand and remember the information.
Reflection is not just thinking — it is actively processing, understanding, and learning from your own experiences and ideas . When you step away from the constant stimuli of the screen and give yourself time to think in peace and quiet, you create space for deeper insight and better decisions. Reflection works like a mental workout: it helps you connect experiences, understand your own patterns, and make more conscious choices in the future. With The Pen, you don’t just get a tool to write with—you get a moment to think, process, and see your thoughts in a clearer light. Reflection creates a connection between what you do and what you want to understand or improve — and that’s where new ideas and insights emerge.
