Done Scrolling? What happens when we put down our phones?

Done Scrolling? Hvad sker der, når vi lægger telefonen fra os?

The phone is probably the first thing you see in the morning and the last thing you put down at night. It helps us work, stay in touch with family and friends, find our way, and learn new things. But it has also become the biggest competitor for our attention.

According to Norlys' Screen Index, Danes spend an average of 4.4 hours of their free time in front of a screen every day. For 18-29 year olds, the figure is 5.1 hours daily. In a year, this amounts to over 1,800 hours – more than 75 days – alone in front of a screen in their free time.

From tool to time-waster

Just 15 years ago, the phone was primarily a tool for calls and SMS messages. Today, it has become our camera, calendar, bank, TV, news medium, and entertainment platform all in one device.

At the same time, social media has become increasingly better at captivating our attention. A single swipe quickly turns into ten, and suddenly half an hour has passed. Not because we actively chose it, but because the platforms are designed to make it difficult to stop.

This does not mean that the phone is the problem. On the contrary. It has made everyday life easier in countless ways. The challenge arises when we use it without a real purpose and end up spending our time consuming instead of creating.

What makes handwriting different?

There's a reason many people still choose a notebook when they need to think, plan, or develop ideas.

When you write by hand, your brain works differently than when you type on a keyboard. The pace slows down, forcing you to process your thoughts as you go. Several studies indicate that handwriting can improve learning, memory, and comprehension because you are more actively engaged in the process.

At the same time, a pen is free from everything that usually interrupts us. No notifications. No algorithms. No videos that automatically start the next one.

Just you and your thoughts.

Writing is the opposite of scrolling

When you scroll, you consume other people's ideas. When you write, you develop your own. This doesn't mean the phone has to go. Most of us depend on it in both work and private life. But perhaps we need more moments where we consciously choose something different. A piece of paper. A notebook. A pen.

That's why The Pen exists

At A PEN COMPANY, we don't believe the solution is digital abstinence. We believe in balance.

THE PEN is created for those moments when you choose to stop consuming and start creating. It is hand-assembled in Denmark, made of steel, and designed to last a lifetime. When the ink runs out, you change the refill – not the pen.

Maybe a pen won't change the world.

But it can be the beginning of the idea that does.

Done Scrolling? Then perhaps it's time to write.

The Pen

It's the only pen you'll ever need.
